What’s this all about then?

I have a love for marketing and communications and in fact it’s the industry I work in full-time. I decided to start this blog so that I can share best-practice and hopefully give you ideas and help save you time too.

Being helpful

It’s great that there are so many people out there who want to be helpful and are willing to spare their time or share their ‘secrets’ so hopefully I can be one of them too. Working in students’ unions I’ve found that most of my colleagues at other universities are happy to share ‘best practice’, telling me what works, what doesn’t, and what we can do to better communicate with our students.

noun: best practice; plural noun: best practices

commercial or professional procedures that are accepted or prescribed as being correct or most effective.

It’s not just in work though as there are many people on Twitter, most of whom I’ve never met, who have helped me out over the years with many questions I’ve had.

It’s great to be helped, and in turn I think it’s even better to be the one to help, so I’m looking forward to blogging here.

Sharing is caring

I miss the days of RSS feeds, and am still annoyed that Google decided to shut down their Google Reader service in 2013 in a ‘spring clean’. I lost touch with a lot of blogs after that and a lot of useful information, so I’ll also be using this blog to curate links to interesting and useful articles.

I also think it’s a shame that I hunt down useful information, use it, then forget where I got it from. Some of this stuff is fried gold and deserves to be shared.

Let the show begin

So that’s it for the introductory post. I can’t promise how often I’ll be blogging as I will only be posting interesting content when I have it rather than on a daily basis so follow me on Twitter to get notified of updates.
